The Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies (WGSS) program at UAF invites you to a timely and compelling event: The Impact of Abortion Restrictions on Violence Against Women, featuring guest speaker Associate Professor Ingrid Johnson. This talk will examine the link between intimate partner violence (IPV) and abortion access, with a particular focus on rural Alaska.

Johnson will reflect on her role as an expert witness in the 2019 legal challenge to Alaska鈥檚 Advanced Practice Clinician (APC) ban鈥攁 law that restricted who could provide abortion care. Her testimony highlighted how such restrictions uniquely harm survivors of IPV. Don鈥檛 miss this opportunity to engage in a vital conversation at the intersection of reproductive justice and gender-based violence.

About the Speaker

Ingrid Johnson is a criminologist and victimologist whose research centers on gender-based violence, particularly intimate partner violence and sexual assault. She has served as an expert witness in legal cases and brings both academic rigor and deep compassion to her advocacy for survivors.
