Bring your class to the museum!
A field trip to the museum will enrich your lessons, engage student interest, and create lasting memories. Plan a visit for your class and ignite their curiosity.
We have many resources designed to help you prepare for your field trip or to explore science, art, history, culture, and collections from your classroom.

Bring your students to the museum to learn about our state’s history, cultures, science, and art! Focus time in one gallery or plan a rotation schedule to visit them all.
Make reservations throughout the semester and explore at your own pace.
Available: Monday - Friday 9 AM - 5 PM.
Advance reservations required.

Cost: $6 per student
Chaperones required.
Preschool Offerings: With a preschool field trip, teachers may request a backpack of interactive gallery exploration activities designed for ages 3-5.

UAMN volunteer docents guide student explorations and activities centered on museum research and collections.
Directed Discoveries are allotted to local schools. See your administrator for details.

Available: Tuesday-Thursday. All tours begin at 10:00 AM.

GRADES K - 1 🕒 1 hr
GRADES 2 - 6 🕒 1.5 hrs
ALASKA NATIVE CULTURES
Discover and explore in the Gallery of Alaska.
K-1 Discover the cultural diversity of our state thorugh stories and hands-on explorations.
2-3 Explore Alaska Native cultures, experience fish camp, and learn about cultural traditions
and seasonal activities in Alaska's Interior.
4-6 Examine cultural connections to regional resources and take part in a trade game to
learn about bartering traditions.
MUSEUM SCIENCE
Discover how museum collections teach us about our world.
K-1 Find animals in the Gallery of Alaska while practicing observation and comparison.
2-3 Apply skills of sorting and classification and learn why they are important to science.
4-6 Examine and compare skulls to learn about animal characteristics and adaptations.
EXPLORING ART
Discover the Rose Berry Alaska Art Gallery. Sketch and create.
K-6 Discover and interpret art in many forms. Tour the Rose Berry Alaska Art Gallery.
View and discuss artworks. Try hands-on art activities and sketch during free-choice
gallery time.
DISCOVERING WHALES
K-1 Try hearing and feeding like a whale. Experiment with blubber for warmth, and learn
about peoples' connection to whales.
2-6 Discover adaptations throug hands-on experiments. See skulls and create a paper bowhead
skeleton. Hear abou cultural connections to whales.
ADD-ONS Advance reservations required.
GALLERY EXPLORATION Free
Schedule 20-30 extra minutes after your Directed Discovery to lead your students through
another of the museum’s galleries.
SPECIAL EXHIBITS Free
- Creative Continuum: 60 years of the Native Art Center (January 30- September 27, 2026)

Request to bring students in grades 4th-12th to the Walt and Marita Babula Planetarium at the UA Museum of the North for a fulldome movie. Combine with a museum gallery exploration!
Limited slots available from May 4th through May 29th, 2026.
We will confirm your reservation via email and can help plan your visit.

$10 per student: Combination ticket Planetarium with Exhibit Exploration (flexible duration 1.5 hrs +)
OR
$6 per student: Planetarium only (duration approx. 30 min)
Chaperones required (free admission within ratio 1:8)
- The Pretty COOL SPACE (22 min): The Pretty COOL SPACE Movie is a visually stunning space journey that takes audiences on an immersive, mesmerizing odyssey from Earth to the farthest reaches of the universe.
- A New Blue - The Exoplanet (27 min): A New Blue invites audiences into the unfolding story of exoplanet discovery, revealing how astronomers have turned faint points of light into entire solar systems—rich with strange worlds, some potentially habitable, others entirely alien.
Seating Capacity
- The planetarium seats 64 in reclining chairs. The maximum capacity is 65 with wheelchair accessibility.
- Minimum required to book: 20 students + teachers/ chaperones at a 1:8 ratio.
- Combine 2 classes or share the planetarium with a class from another school!
- Middle and High Schools wishing to visit with 100+ students. We can accommodate large field trip through a rotation. Book both 10am & 11am slots to fit up to 128.
