Friday Focus: An exciting road ahead

The Alaska Nanooks Athletics season has surged forward with positive momentum, driven by competitive excellence, increasing fan energy, and a shared belief in what Nanook Athletics represents for our university, our community, and our state. Across all programs, your Nanooks have delivered resilient performances, memorable moments, and a renewed sense that something special is building on campus and within Fairbanks.

That momentum was on full display this past weekend during the Alaska Airlines Governor’s Cup. In an atmosphere charged with pride and intensity, Nanooks Hockey rose to the occasion, reflecting the grit, preparation, and heart of this team. Between a tie and a win, the 'Nooks find themselves up 4-2 in the series points totals with six matchups to go. The weekend also served as a reminder that when the Nanooks take the ice, the entire community and state are watching.

Beyond the rivalry spotlight, Nanooks teams across the department have continued to stack accomplishments. From a GNAC Volleyball Championship and NCAA Tournament appearance to disciplined road performances and gritty home victories, Alaska student-athletes have shown growth, unity, and an incredible competitive edge. Each competition has added confidence, and each success has reinforced a culture centered on positive momentum, accountability, and wearing the A-Bear with pride.

Now, the focus moves forward, and the opportunities ahead are just as exciting. The Gov Cup hockey series continues, and every game carries heightened stakes and intensity. Whether you’re a longtime Nanooks supporter or new to college hockey, these upcoming matchups promise fast-paced action, physical play, and an atmosphere unlike any other. This is the perfect time to pack the arena, bring your blue and gold, and be part of the energy that fuels your team.

Off the ice and beyond competition, Nanooks Athletics is also creating unforgettable experiences for fans, the community, and beyond. One of the highlights on the horizon is the , a fundraising celebration of Nanook spirit, tradition and togetherness. This event embodies what Alaska Athletics is all about: community connection, school pride, and shared experiences that go far beyond the scoreboard – well, not too far, it happens right here in the Alaska Airlines Gymnasium. Plus, it's an exciting way to support your teams and win some amazing prizes throughout the evening.

There are also countless ways to get involved and make the most of this season:

• Show up early and stay late – in-game events and postgame celebrations are part of the fun.
• Wear your blue and gold and bring friends – energy is contagious, and every fan matters.
• Engage on social media to amplify Nanooks stories and support our student-athletes.
• Participate in special events like to connect with alumni, student-athletes, families, and fans who share the same Nanook pride.
• Introduce someone new to ; your next favorite fan might be sitting right next to you.

None of this momentum happens by chance. It is built through vision, leadership, and a commitment to growth. A sincere thank you goes to the ҹɫ¸£Àû faculty, staff, and leadership for their amazing support. And of course, the Nanooks Athletics administration and coaches for their continued investment, belief, and vision for the future. Their hard work and support empower student-athletes to compete at the highest level, succeed in the classroom, and represent the University of Alaska with pride.

As the season continues, I want to make the message clear: the Alaska Nanooks are moving forward with purpose. The foundation is strong, the future is bright, and the best moments of this season are still to come. Now is the time to rally together, embrace the excitement and be part of the journey.
