Kaydee Van Flein has agreed to serve as associate vice chancellor for student affairs.

Van Flein’s journey with UAF began in May of 2012, when she joined the university as the first wellness coordinator at the then-named Department of Recreation, Adventure and Wellness. Following her successful tenure at the SRC, she transitioned in 2018 to help create the Center for Student Rights and Responsibilities. Later, she and her team worked to combine CSRR and the Department of Equity and Compliance into the unified office we now know as ORCA (Office of Rights, Compliance and Accountability).

Throughout her career, Van Flein's work has focused heavily on campus safety through the lens of restorative accountability. Her leadership was instrumental in establishing both the UAF CARE Team and the threat assessment team, creating critical frameworks for community support and intervention.

Van Flein has a deep passion for safety and advocacy, and she is a firm believer in building dynamic teams dedicated to fostering a healthy, thriving campus body. She believes wholeheartedly in the work we do at UAF and is deeply dedicated to supporting all areas of campus – our staff, faculty and students alike.

"I am incredibly excited to take on this new role as AVC," Van Flein said. "I look forward to continuing to invest in UAF, supporting our community and working alongside our fantastic student affairs team."

Please congratulate Van Flein and welcome her into this vital leadership role.
