Miller named chief of staff

UAF alumnus and longtime employee Derek Miller has been selected to serve as the next UAF chief of staff. Miller will be a member of the chancellor’s core cabinet and support a variety of efforts across campus. He will begin his new position on Aug. 24.

Miller is currently the executive officer for the UAF College of Engineering and Mines, a position he has held since 2019. He has co-led strategic planning and execution efforts and advised the dean on fiscal strategy, operations and organizational management. Other previous positions include business office manager for the Institute of Northern Engineering, senior business analyst in the UAF Office of Management and Budget, assistant to the former Chancellor Brian Rogers, and an Alaska legislative aide.

Miller is a two-time UAF alumnus and a previous ASUAF president and student regent. He earned both a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in business administration from UAF.
