Spring '27 textbook adoptions and cost transparency

Though it may seem early with the Fall 2026 semester just getting started, it’s time to begin thinking ahead to Spring 2027 courses.
As a reminder, the Alaska Textbook Cost Transparency Act went into effect on July 1st, 2026. Essentially, this law requires that accurate information regarding required course materials is available at the time that the course schedule is made public to students. This is meant to help students make informed decisions about the courses they enroll in and the costs they will be incurring. This means the timeline allowed for textbook adoptions is changing as well.
- will open on Friday, Sept. 11.
- The textbook adoption period will end on Friday, Oct. 9.
- Spring 2027 course schedule will be live for student viewing on Monday, Oct. 12.
While many units attempt to make the schedule as accurate as possible when it enters the workflow (also on Sept. 11), it may not be completely correct. If the course information you see listed in your adoption reminder notification from the bookstore does not look right, please check with your department to verify the courses you will be teaching before selecting textbooks.
If a textbook selection is not made by Oct. 9, the previously used materials will be auto-adopted.
