UAF students awarded Gilman Scholarship for study abroad

UAF students Genevieve Simono, Quillian Anderson, Emily Hawley and Marina Levicka were all recently awarded the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship, which supports students studying abroad.
Simono, a civil engineering major, is currently participating in a summer program in the Netherlands. Anderson, a fisheries and marine sciences major, will study in Norway for the fall 2026 semester. Hawley, a natural resources and environment major, plans to study in Thailand next spring. Levicka, a wildlife biology and conservation major, plans to study in Kenya in the spring.
The U.S. Department of State’s Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program has awarded scholarships to 2,100 American undergraduate students in spring 2026 to study and intern abroad between May 2026 and May 2027. This spring, the Gilman Program received over 12,200 applications, the highest number for any application cycle in the program’s 25-year history. Despite a record level of competition, this application cycle also marks a new record for the number of recipients selected from UAF.
