Wilderness First Aid course for field researchers

Sept. 17, 2026

This WMA Wilderness First Aid course, on Nov. 14-15 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. both days, is a must for anyone who goes into Alaska's backcountry.

This course helps you understand how to make medical decisions and manage injuries when away from definitive care. The instructor will help you understand what constitutes a big deal and what constitutes a small deal, so you can make effective decisions about the situation's urgency and how you can help. Upon successful completion of the course, students will receive a nationally recognized WMA Wilderness First Aid Certificate.

This training is covered by a generous grant from the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research, and nine seats are available to UAF field researchers. As this is a free training and is expected to fill quickly, please let us know ASAP if you are unable to attend.
