Responsible Conduct of Research training will be offered Wednesday, Jan. 25, from 2-5 p.m. via Zoom. The training is brought to you by the Office of Research Integrity. This particular workshop fulfills the National Science Foundation and National Institutes of Health requirements for formal RCR instruction. This is the only formal RCR training at UAF this semester.

Learn to strength train in 2023 with Nanook Recreation

Nanook Recreation offers a variety of strength training group fitness classes that are free with membership. Currently, offerings include intro to strength training a beginner-friendly class that goes over the basics of strength training machines, functional exercises, and free weights.

Save the date: Commencement 2023 is May 6

UAF's 101st commencement is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 6, at the Carlson Center. There will be one ceremony this year. Students who are expecting to walk this year, should apply to graduate by Feb. 1, 2023. After that date the fee rises to $80; March 1 is the final deadline.

Alumni Association donates to student groups, campus projects

The UAF Alumni Association has awarded $20,000 to support student organizations and campus projects. A $10,000 gift went to the Georgeson Botanical Garden, and a variety of student groups received another $10,000.

Solo Exhibit at the Alaska State Museum

The Alaska State Museum in Juneau is presenting a solo exhibition of Gail Priday’s paintings through Feb. 4, 2023. Priday, associate director of Summer Sessions and Lifelong Learning and UAF art department alumna, received a 2022 Individual Artist Award from the Rasmuson Foundation. A portion of the award helped cover the cost of shipping 33 paintings from Fairbanks to Juneau.

At 9 a.m. on a crisp Monday morning in mid-November, I am one of about 10 people standing outside an office on First Avenue in Fairbanks. We are here for the “wood drop” program organized by Aurora Energy Solutions, a subsidiary of Aurora Energy — the company that owns the 27.5-megawatt coal-fired power plant, right across the road, that supplies electricity to the greater Fairbanks area and heat in the form of steam to the downtown area.
