In a rare week of blue-bird days in Utqiagvik, I had the honor and pleasure to participate in the 75th anniversary celebration for the Naval Arctic Research Laboratory (NARL). Hosted by Ukpeaġvik Iñupiat Corporation (UIC) this celebration brought together North Slope Borough community members, for profit and not-for-profit corporations, and both past and present Arctic researchers, including many of us from UAF.

Friday Focus: Advancing university identity

I spend a lot of time thinking about how UAF is perceived, how we talk about ourselves and how to tell our stories, while advancing this university and ensuring that UAF is a place of belonging for all students, faculty and staff.

UAF is reviewing how we onboard new and returning employees to improve the process across our campuses. To do this, we are asking staff hired within the last five years (2018 through June of 2022) to provide feedback by completing a brief anonymous survey. It should take about 5-10 minutes to complete.

Jennifer Tilbury has been appointed as Associate Vice Provost for Student Success, effective July 1, 2022. In her new role, she will work to develop and direct short and long range initiatives related to student success and retention, as well as lead efforts to launch the UAF Student Success Center that will be located in a renovated space on the sixth floor of the Rasmuson Library.
