This change reflects the continued evolution of advising at UAF toward a more integrated, student-centered approach that emphasizes proactive engagement, innovation, and sustained academic support. Furthermore, Nanook Advising has several recent additions and updates to its team, all designed to further strengthen the collective commitment to student success and retention at UAF.

Outdoor Adventures is hosting weekly fat bike group rides every Wednesday night from 5:30 to 7 p.m. These rides are free for all students. Outdoor Adventures and UAF Green Bikes have free fat bikes available for these group rides, but participants are certainly encouraged to bring their own bike.

Study Away participation more than doubled in 2025

Participation in the UAF Study Away program more than doubled this past year, from 30 students in 2024 to 71 students in 2025. The Study Away program offers UAF students the opportunity to enhance their education with a semester or two at another international or U.S. university, while earning credit towards their UAF degree.

MBS Hess Commons restroom addition

The walls are now up on the new single ADA-compliant restroom being built in the Hess Commons near the Campus Cache. Most of the plumbing and electrical rough-in is complete, and tile will be installed in the coming days. Part of this project also includes renovating the old computer lab. The project is on track to be completed in early March.

UAF seeks feedback on Customer Relationship Management software

The statewide-lead Customer Relationship Management request for proposal project team is gathering feedback on RFP requirements for an integrated UA-wide CRM system to replace Salesforce/Erx, Nanook Navigator, and Raiser's Edge as a single platform for student relationship data and communications throughout the student journey. The CRM will be used supplementally to Banner, which will continue to be the source of record. The survey will remain open until 5 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 23.

McDonald appointed interim director of UAF Bristol Bay Campus

Alyssa McDonald has been appointed as the interim director for the UAF Bristol Bay Campus, effective Jan. 11, 2026. McDonald, who currently serves as a precollege and dual-credit advisor for the Bristol Bay Campus in Unalaska, will lead the campus until a permanent director is seated in the summer of 2026.
