Welding is an important industrial skill, useful in a variety of areas. Individuals trained in welding often find employment opportunities in the construction, agriculture, mining, transportation, aviation, and petroleum industries. Training ranges from welding basics to advanced structural metal fabrication.

Program delivery

Delivery:

Program is completed through in-person courses in which student receive both classroom and practical hands-on learning experiences. Class size is limited, so students will receive individual help and attention.

The program is a cohort based program that accepts up to 16 students per cohort. Each student cohort progresses through a pre-determined sequence of courses throughout the fall and spring semesters.

Scheduling:

Most welding courses are taught in the evening or on the weekend so as to accommodate the needs of students who have daytime jobs or are in the military.

When to Start:

The program begins with a new cohort of students at the beginning of the Fall semester of each year.

Location:

Program is located at the Hutchison Center, 3770 Geist Road in the Hutchison Institute of Technology. Students will work in  of a fully-equipped modernized shop, boasting the latest tools and equipment, to ensure that students receive education and training that meets current industry standards.

Program highlights

The occupational endorsement certification in welding and materials technology is designed for students who want to learn to cut and weld, as well as students seeking more advanced courses in order to take their welding skills further. Our program emphasizes welding safety in every course and develops the students’ ability to recognize hazardous situations encountered in the workplace.

Students work toward American Welding Society certification or pursue advanced projects. Students may request credit by examination for any WMT class.

Students are required to provide their own personal gear for the welding courses in which they enroll. Contact the Welding department for a list of required welding gear.
